How to measure your clothing size

A practical guide to measuring your body for accurate clothing sizes.

Updated 31 July 2026

Overview

Sizes on Javern come from many different Vendors, and every brand's sizing runs a little differently. Knowing your actual body measurements — in centimetres and inches — makes it easier to pick the right size and cuts down on returns.

What you need

  • A soft measuring tape (the fabric kind used for sewing).
  • Fitted clothing (or measure over underwear for the most accurate numbers).
  • A mirror or a friend.

Key measurements

  • Chest / bust — around the fullest part, keeping the tape horizontal.
  • Waist — around the narrowest part of your natural waist (usually just above the belly button).
  • Hips — around the fullest part, usually 18–20 cm below the waist.
  • Inseam — from the crotch seam of trousers down to the ankle.
  • Shoulder — across the back from one shoulder point to the other.
  • Sleeve length — from shoulder point down to your wrist, arm slightly bent.

Turning measurements into a size

  • Check the Vendor's size chart on the product page — many list bust, waist, hip, and length in centimetres for each size.
  • If your measurements sit between two sizes, size up for looser fits and size down for tight/tailored fits.
  • Message the Vendor before ordering if you're unsure — most are happy to advise.

Tips

  • Measure yourself in the morning; you shrink slightly during the day.
  • Don't pull the tape tight — snug to the body is enough.
  • Re-measure every few months. Bodies change.
