For a Nigerian interview, dress one notch smarter than the company's normal dress code. Being slightly overdressed reads as respectful and prepared; underdressed can raise questions before you've said a word.

Research the workplace first

Check the company's social media, staff photos, or LinkedIn to see what people wear day-to-day.
Corporate finance, law, oil & gas → suits.
Tech, agencies, startups → smart-casual with a tailored edge.
Creative, fashion, media → your outfit is part of the pitch.

Corporate / formal

Men — dark suit (navy, charcoal, black), white or light blue shirt, plain tie, polished dress shoes.
Women — tailored trouser suit or skirt suit, blouse, closed-toe heels or smart flats.
Keep accessories minimal — a watch, small studs, plain belt.

Smart-casual

Men — chinos or dark jeans, tucked-in button-up (no tie needed), leather sneakers or loafers, jacket if it's air-conditioned.
Women — a well-tailored blouse or midi dress, smart flats or low heels, a structured bag.
Colours: neutrals with one clean accent.

Creative / fashion

Show your taste, but pull it together. This is where an on-trend but well-fitted piece earns you points.
Avoid loud logos or anything that reads as a costume.
Ankara or traditional pieces are fair game if styled with intention.

Wrinkled or ill-fitting clothing.
Strong cologne / perfume.
Bright, distracting patterns for corporate roles.
Open-toe shoes in most professional settings.
Overly casual sneakers, hoodies, or shorts.

Try the whole outfit on a day before — no surprises with fit.
