Creating seasonal collections

Plan and launch seasonal collections for your fashion brand.

Updated 31 July 2026

Overview

Collections give buyers a reason to come back. They also give you focus — instead of adding random pieces, you release a themed drop, tell a story, and market it as an event.

The Nigerian seasonal calendar

Rather than four Western seasons, Nigerian fashion moves in cultural cycles:

  • January–March — post-Detty December quiet, ideal for capsule / basics drops.
  • April–June — corporate season, weddings pick up.
  • July–September — mid-year, back-to-school for kids, wedding peak.
  • October–November — pre-holiday build, Black Friday.
  • December — Detty December — biggest style spend of the year.

Also worth planning around:

  • Ember months / Christmas — statement pieces, party wear.
  • Ramadan and Eid — modest wear, traditional wear.
  • Valentine's — gifting-friendly pieces.
  • Independence — patriotic colours if it fits your brand.

Plan a collection

  1. Pick a theme. A colour palette, a mood, a story ("Lagos midnight", "Village to city", "Modern Ankara").
  2. Choose 6–15 pieces. Enough for a real launch, not so many the story is lost.
  3. Design cohesively. Everything should feel like it belongs in the same drop.
  4. Set a launch date and work backwards.
  5. Sample and test before committing to full production.

Timeline (3 months out)

  • 12 weeks: concept, sketches, sourcing.
  • 10 weeks: samples ready.
  • 8 weeks: production kicks off.
  • 6 weeks: photography and content prep.
  • 4 weeks: teaser content on social; save-the-date campaigns.
  • 2 weeks: ramp up marketing.
  • Launch day: everything goes live.

Adjust the timeline to your brand's actual production speed.

Launch and market

  • Launch as a marketing campaign to your Javern followers. See How do marketing campaigns work?.
  • Big content push on social — reels, styling videos, look book.
  • Time-limited launch coupon to create urgency.
  • Reach out to be featured on Javern's home-page article slider. See How do featured stores work?.

After launch

  • Track what sells. Some pieces will outperform; consider a restock.
  • Slower pieces? Discount closer to end of season.
  • Learn. Note what worked for the next collection.

Common mistakes

  • Too many pieces at once. Buyers can't focus.
  • Weak theme. Random pieces called a "collection" fool nobody.
  • Late marketing. Announce well before launch so demand is ready when it drops.
  • No follow-up. A launch doesn't sell itself — keep marketing for weeks after.
