Preparing for Black Friday sales
Get your Javern store ready for Black Friday and end-of-year sales.
Updated 31 July 2026
Overview
Black Friday and the Detty December stretch are the biggest shopping window of the Nigerian year. Prepare early, stock enough, plan your promo, and staff up so you can actually ship what you sell.
6 weeks out
- Pick your promo. Percentage off, fixed amount off, buy-one-get-one, bundles. Pick one hero offer, don't cram three.
- Plan stock. Look at last year (or this quarter) — which items sold most? Order more of those.
- Line up packaging. Order boxes, bags, tissue, stickers early.
- Prep hero content. Shoot the Black Friday campaign photos and reels now, not during the rush.
3–4 weeks out
- Set up your coupon in the Javern Vendor app so you can flip it on at the exact time. See How do I create coupons?.
- Warm up your audience. "Something big is coming" posts on social and marketing campaigns to followers.
- Confirm supplier lead times if you're restocking anything for the sale.
2 weeks out
- Send a "save the date" marketing campaign to your Javern followers.
- Publish teaser content on social.
- Line up help. If you can't handle a big volume alone, get support for packing and shipping.
- Prep FAQ replies for the questions you know are coming.
Sale week
- Send a launch campaign the moment the sale goes live.
- Post consistently — daily reminders across your channels.
- Reply fast in chat. Speed matters more than ever during peak.
- Accept orders immediately. Don't let the 72-hour countdown get anywhere close.
- Monitor stock. Update or hide sold-out items to avoid overselling.
- Ship as fast as you can. Late shipping during peak destroys goodwill.
After the sale
- Follow up in chat with buyers a few days after delivery.
- Ask for reviews politely.
- Send a "welcome to the family" campaign to first-time buyers.
- Debrief — what worked, what didn't. Note it down for next year.
Common mistakes
- Under-preparing stock — sale drives new buyers who see out-of-stock as a bad first impression.
- Overpromising delivery. Set realistic ETAs; a delayed order eats the goodwill you built with the discount.
- Deep discounts on already-thin margins — check your math. Sometimes a bundle or a "free shipping" offer beats a % off.
- Ignoring existing customers. Give repeat buyers something special (early access, extra %).
- Not planning for after — a huge Black Friday feels great until you realise January is quiet. Use the sale to capture followers, reviews, and repeat customers.
