Who pays return shipping?

Who pays return shipping — quick answer with steps and helpful context for Javern users.

Overview

Who covers the cost of a return depends on why you're returning it. If the store is at fault, they cover it. If it's your preference (wrong size ordered, changed your mind), you usually cover it — but every store's policy is different, so it's worth checking with them first.

Store pays

The store typically covers return shipping when the issue is on their side:

  • Wrong item sent.
  • Damaged in transit or defective.
  • Item doesn't match the description.

Buyer pays

You typically cover return shipping when the issue is on your side:

  • Changed your mind.
  • Ordered the wrong size or colour and want to swap.
  • Item was as described but you don't want it.

Confirming with the store

Before shipping anything back, message the store in the order chat and:

  1. Confirm the reason for the return.
  2. Ask who's paying for the return delivery.
  3. Ask which courier they prefer, and whether they'll book it or you should.

Sending the item back before agreeing this can cause problems if the store won't accept the courier or refuses the return.

Tip

Use a courier with tracking, and share the tracking number in the order chat once the parcel is on its way. Some refunds only clear after the store confirms they've received the returned item.
