How do I avoid scams?

How do I avoid scams — quick answer with steps and helpful context for Javern users.

Updated 31 July 2026

Overview

Most scams follow the same script — someone pretends to be Javern (or a store, or the courier), pressures you to act fast, and asks for money or a code. Slow down, stick to Javern, and you're mostly protected by default.

Golden rules

  • Never pay a store outside Javern. If a seller asks for a direct bank transfer, gift cards, or crypto to "reserve" or "unlock" your order, it's a scam. Off-platform payments aren't protected — you have no recourse.
  • Never share your password or one-time codes. Not with support, not with a seller, not with anyone. See What should I never share?.
  • Always talk to the store in the order chat, not in DMs on Instagram, WhatsApp, or Telegram. Chat logs are how we help resolve disputes.
  • Check the URL and app icon. Real Javern lives at javern.com and inside the official Javern and Javern Vendor apps on the App Store and Play Store.

Common scam patterns to watch for

  • "Your account is suspended, click here to verify" — a fake link to steal your password.
  • "You've won a Javern voucher, send your OTP to claim" — Javern never runs "voucher" giveaways that need your OTP.
  • "Send a refundable deposit to secure the item" — no real Javern order asks for that.
  • A "courier" texting a payment link for customs fees — Javern deliveries don't charge you extra by SMS link.
  • A "seller" asking you to cancel and re-order at a discount via bank transfer — always a scam.

Sanity-check anyone claiming to be Javern

  • Real support replies inside the Javern app or from an email at our verified domain.
  • We never DM you first on WhatsApp or Instagram asking for account details.
  • We never call to ask for your password or OTP.

If something feels off, don't act. Contact support and we'll confirm whether the message is really from us.

If you've been scammed

  1. Stop replying to the scammer.
  2. Reset your Javern password via "Forgot password" on the sign-in page. See How do I change my password?.
  3. If you sent money outside Javern, call your bank immediately.
  4. Contact support with screenshots and any relevant order ID. See How do I report fraud?.
